Tricks and Tips for new aquarists!

(this section will be updated frequently, and also please note that all information on this page is gathered from guru aquarists, I just simply collected them to help spread the knowledge and awareness of good fish-keeping )

1- Before setting up an aquarium choose a good location for it! yes sir, you want it in a place where you can view it easily. Also, keep it away from direct sun light! unless you want algae problems.

2- Choose the biggest possible tank size, your fish will need that extra swimming space.

3- Make sure the tank's stand is strong enough! because water is heavy...

4- Use quality substrate, the foundation of any planted aquarium is the" root" area after all, so keep those roots happy!

5- The general rule for aquascaping is to keep tall plants in the back of the tank, and small/short plants in the foreground.

6- Plan what your focal point ( also known as the Golden Ratio ) is going to be; a piece of wood, rock or a bunch of plants. A focal point is the thing that catches the eye when you look at the aquarium, it also gives balance to the aquascape if done correctly.

7- Stick to dark gravel, unless you want white sand for the foreground, and never ever use pink, blue, green...etc gravel!

8- Water changes are your best friend! make weekly 20-25% water changes; it's much better than 50% water changes every few weeks...trust me.

9- Put a black, white or blue background......red, green or yellow backgrounds suck and don't look natural at all! I also like to use cardboard as a background ( with the desired color of course ), this way I can change it anytime I want.

10- Gold Fishes are not meant to be in tropical aquariums! have you ever seen a polar bear in the desert?

11- Please add BIG fishes in large aquariums only! don't put them in little prisons.

12- To clean the glass of algae, simply use a sponge ( the type with green and yellow sides ) to scrub the algea, or buy an aquarium glass cleaner.

*For all those who don't know what a sponge is,
here it is!
